Please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any follow up questions. Thanks also to the PTA representatives in attendance on the night who did a sterling job with the Wine and Cheese event and the clean-up at the end. The evening was enjoyed by all.

Last Friday, Year 7 students participated in Top Team, hosted on the Preparatory School field by Sport Canterbury. Students were split into 16 teams, with a mix of students from different classes. They were given time early in the term to create team names, plan costumes and practice team chants. Students then competed against one another to be the Top Team! Top Team is a series of interactive team building challenges designed to promote problem-solving, communication and teamwork while being active and having fun. Top Team is unique in that it is designed with all abilities in mind. This helps takes away the ‘intimidation’ factor of physical activity and increases confidence amongst non-participating rangatahi to take part in future events. Top Team encourages maximum participation and fun. The Top Team activity was another part of the transition to Year 7 programme that aims to help students to adjust to their new year level and make connections with a wide variety of students across the year group.
During Week 2, Years 1–3 classes attended a beach education day at South Brighton Surf Club. The students enjoyed a tour of the club rooms and were shown some of the equipment that the lifeguards use, including the Inflatable Rescue Boat (IRB) and a variety of surf boards and rescue gear. The lifeguards reminded us about the importance of being sunsmart and taught us how to keep safe in a rip. The students then had the opportunity to head out into the water to put their safety skills into practise.
Flickr >On Monday 10 the Preparatory School Swimming Prelims were held at Jellie Park, and the Year 4 students also raced in their Championship Swimming Sports events. All students participated to the best of their ability at their first swimming sports, and it was great to have so much support at this event from the community.
Top three Year 4 Swimming Sports Age Group Champions:
Georgia Gregg (Year 8) danced in Timaru in the weekend and won the South Canterbury Championship U12 Irish Jig. Georgia, with partner Violet Winterbourn (Year 5) also won the Double Sword U14.
Years 5–8 students have already been asked to sign up for the Canterbury Triathlon by their classroom teachers. If we have a large number of applicants, we will hold a time trial to determine our student representatives.
Date: Tuesday 25 February
Venue: South Eyre Road, on a private property
Race details:
If the student hasn't signed up via their classroom teacher, please email Head of Physical Education, Isaac Leota, on ILE@stac.school.nz to register them.
