Preparatory School Newsletter

Thursday 1 August 2024

In Brief:

  • Calendar (Term Fixtures) in StACNet;
  • Gumboot Day – details below;
  • Book Week – details below;
  • Grandparents’ Day, Friday 25 October – save the date.

Term 3, Week 2

Despite the cold, it was heartening to see the sun peek through the clouds yesterday.

Parent Interviews

Sincere thanks to those of you who have attended interviews this week. The number of parents attending has been pleasing. The teachers have appreciated the opportunity to meet with you and to discuss your child’s learning.

Pre-school Parking Spaces and KEA Crossing

Just a reminder, the three designated parking spaces in the drop-off/pick-up area are for parents who have children attending the Pre-school. These parking spaces are in operation for the full school day, 8.00am–4.30pm. As per the Resource Consent for the Pre-school, the College is required to have these parking spaces available when the centre is operating.

If crossing Normans Road, please ensure you use the school Kea crossing when arriving in the morning and leaving in the afternoon. Not to do so is putting your children at risk.

Gumboot Day

In support of the Boarders’ Assembly on Friday 16 August, the Agriculture Committee will once again hold Gumboot Day to support and raise money for youth mental health.

Students and staff can wear (clean) gumboots to school. The gumboots are to be worn with the children’s school uniform. To donate $3.00, please text BOOTS to 469.

Health Care

There are severe Winter sicknesses currently doing the rounds. If your child has had diarrhoea and/or vomiting, the Health New Zealand requirement is that they must remain at home for at least two full days (48 hours) from the last episode.

The school received the following information from Health New Zealand last week. The poster below provides information and guidance for choosing the correct path for supporting family health needs.

Te Wiki O Ngā Pukapuka (Book Week) 23–27 September 2024

Reading Is Magic

Excitement is starting to build for our annual Book Week at the end of this term. We have five days of activities and fun planned around the theme of 'Reading is Magic', designed to celebrate the wonder and magic in stories and books.

Activities will include a visit from inventor and author Steve Mushin, a Story Walk, our inter-class Battle of Books Quiz, a variety of competitions and lots of fun activities.

The highlight of the week as always will be our annual Book Parade. This will take place on Thursday 26 September starting at 12.00pm. All students are invited to dress up as book characters for the day and join in the fun.

Scholastic Book Club

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Ali Wickham, parent of Caitlin and Isla Sullivan. Ali has been working voluntarily for 10 years, bringing the Scholastic Lucky Book Club to our students, and has now decided to step down as her time as a Preparatory School parent comes to a close.

All staff and students wish to extend their gratitude to Ali for her hard work and cheerful commitment to this role.

If you are interested in finding out more about this voluntary role, please contact Preparatory School Library Manager, Tracey Hull, on THL@stac.school.nz

Regards
